WELCOME TO THE MULTI-LINGUAL BRUXSEL INFO WEBSITE
the meeting place for the people of Brussels who want to control their own future

Why the name BruXsel ?

BruXsel is the new name we chose to talk about the open and cosmopolitan city that the people of Brussels want to run together to benefit Belgium, Europe...and the rest of the world

* BruXsel at once reminds us of the French and Flemish names of the city
* BruXsel is international and needs no further translation
* BruXsel is easy to pronounce in every language of the world
* BruXsel is a reference to the origins of this thousand year-old city (Bruocsella- a house in a swamp)
* BruXsel makes clear its the region we talk about and not one of its 19 municipalities, the "City of Brussels"

BRUXSEL INFO is not a site in english

* Our goal is to let all inhabitants of Brussels express themselves on the future of their city on one multilingual site. What use is there in talking in between French speakers, Dutch speakers or English speakers ? It's no use preaching to the converted. So, give your ideas a chance on the forum or add your comments to the news items.

* The people of Brussels are easily mulitilingual, so all texts are not systematically translated and sometimes repeat things in several languages. Texts are published in their original language.

* Everyone should feel free to express themselves in their own language, but in writing a simplified French, you make sure you're understood by a maximum of people of all languages. A lingua franca of sorts, mixing words from several origins, used for communicating, while continuing to cultivate one's own language.

* you can change the main language of the site in the field to left of the site

who is behind bruXsel info ?

* No one is hiding under it

* BruXsel info is run by multilingual and volunteering moderators and administrators, part of Brussels' civil society. They work as a collective and their names would not matter much. They are simple citizens as you and I.

* They wanted to create an independent speaker's corner, open to all inhabitants that want to think about the future of their city, before others decide for them.

Phew ! all that's left is to join the movement, react or put new discussions online.
